The Running Start program allows High School Juniors and Seniors to earn credits for both high school and college while still in high school. This allows them to possibly complete college in just three years which will save money and give you a head start on college classes. For more information see the schools' counselors.

Should I enter into this program?

Taking additional classes will add a little more work to your load, so individuals should carefully consider this choice. To be successful students must be self-motivated with good study skills. A student who enters this program must complete all work assigned or they will be downgraded, which will run the risk of them failing over time. The time required for class may also interrupt club activities or sports. Entering into this program, while well worth it, will obligate students to carefully organize all their activities (family, team, and/or job).

How do I earn credits?

Running start students attend community college classes during the school day or evening. Once the course has been completed then the credits are applicable to be transferred to any, "University of Hawaii degree-granting institution," or basically, any branch of UOH. Some colleges and universities may also accept running start credits and students interested should check with the desired school.
