Habit of the Mind
Listening with understanding and empathy: Understanding others! Devoting mental energy to another person's thoughts or ideas; make an effort to perceive another's point of view and emotions.

Practice the power of paraphrasing! When you paraphrase, you are checking in with the speaker to see if you are getting it. Not just the facts, but also the feelings underneath. When you paraphrase you take some of their words, but you weave them into a slightly more expanded version, which you offer back in a tentative, somewhat questioning tone of voice.

SAT Word of the Day
hiatus (noun): time away from work; a break
Remember this: Bosses hate us for going on hiatus.
